- A lifting hook is a component designed to grasp and lift loads using equipment like hoists or cranes. Typically, it is fitted with a safety latch to ensure that the lifting wire rope sling, chain, or rope to which the load is attached does not accidentally detach.
- Lifting equipment hooks come in single and double hook designs based on their shape. They are classified into five strength grades: M, P, S, T, and V, depending on their mechanical properties. Additionally, they are manufactured as either forged hooks or strap-type hooks, based on the production process employed.
- The forged hook serves as a crucial link between the crane and the load, underscoring the importance of its maintenance. Therefore, if the hook's hoisting height limiter or locking device malfunctions or sustains damage, the hook must not be used under any circumstances.
