Types of lifting hoists
Jan 08, 2025| Types of Hoists
- Chain Hoists: Manual or electric chain-driven mechanisms used for lifting lighter loads. They are compact and suitable for smaller stages or studio settings.
- Wire Rope Hoists: Electrically powered hoists that use steel wire ropes for lifting. These are more powerful and can handle heavier loads, making them ideal for larger stages and complex rigging systems.
- Winches: Often used for pulling rather than lifting, winches can be integrated into stage rigging systems for tasks like flying in scenery from the sides of the stage.
- Motorized Fly Bars (Fly System): An advanced system consisting of motorized bars along which sets can be flown in and out using a series of pulleys and counterweights. It allows for quick scene changes and is commonly used in professional theaters.
- Automated Rigging Systems: Highly sophisticated systems that use computer control to manage multiple hoists simultaneously, enabling complex movements and precise positioning during shows.
