Types of Forged Gantry Crane Pulleys

• Fixed Pulleys: Fixed pulleys are mounted in a stationary position on the gantry crane structure. Their main purpose is to change the direction of the force applied by the rope. For example, in a simple lifting operation, a fixed pulley can be used to pull the load vertically upwards while the operator applies the force horizontally.
• Movable Pulleys: Movable pulleys are attached to the load being lifted. When used in combination with fixed pulleys, they provide a mechanical advantage, reducing the amount of force required to lift the load. For instance, a system with one fixed and one movable pulley can halve the force needed to lift a given load compared to lifting it directly.
• Compound Pulleys: Compound pulleys consist of a combination of fixed and movable pulleys arranged in a specific configuration. They offer an even greater mechanical advantage, allowing gantry cranes to lift extremely heavy loads with relatively small input forces. The number of pulleys in a compound system determines the magnitude of the mechanical advantage.
