Types

• Fixed Pulley: In a fixed single round pulley block, the axle of the pulley is fixed in place. It only changes the direction of the applied force. For example, when using a fixed pulley to lift a flag on a flagpole, pulling the rope downwards causes the flag to move upwards.
• Movable Pulley: A movable single round pulley block has a pulley that can move along with the load. It provides a mechanical advantage, meaning that the force required to lift the load is less than the weight of the load. The mechanical advantage of a single movable pulley is 2, which means that the force needed is half of the load's weight (again, ignoring friction and pulley weight).
